Independent director exits in listed companies have reached a multi-year high in 2025, with mid-term resignations at their highest level since 2017. The trend highlights growing churn across sectors, particularly among small and mid-cap companies.

Our Founder & Managing Director, Mr. Shriram Subramanian, shared his expert perspective in Business Standard, pointing to the rising expectations placed on independent directors in recent years. He observed that the last few years have seen significantly more pressure on independent directors to deliver, with an increasing level of focus and scrutiny from regulators, investors, and other stakeholders.

As proxy advisory firms guide shareholders on key company resolutions, including the appointment of directors, this heightened attention reflects a broader shift toward accountability, board effectiveness, and stronger corporate governance standards across Indian listed companies.
