In which Cities are AGMs held?

As institutional investors look to assert their minority rights, they are increasingly participating in voting at shareholder meetings. This note figures out the cities in which Annual General Meetings of companies constituting the Nifty and Junior Nifty are likely to be held.

Section 166 of Companies Act discusses the provisions of AGMs:

  • AGMs have to be held within 15 months of one another, or within 18 months after incorporation.
  • Registrar of Companies may extend the time by a period of 3 months.
  • AGM has to be held during business hours on a working day.
  • AGM shall be held either at the registered office of the company or at some other place within the city, town or village in which the registered office of the company is situated.
